Summary:
On Tuesday, March 6, 1923, near midnight, the Fort Worth Police Department Motorcycle Squad was returning from working at the Fat Stock Show and was heading to the Police Station downtown.
The squad car was traveling south on Houston Street and was following a "Henderson Street Car." The streetcar stopped and a number of passengers started getting off the car. Officer Lewis J. Lewis, a relatively new member of the squad, collided with the rear end of the streetcar. Lewis received head injuries and massive injuries to the left side of his chest. Officer Lewis was taken to the hospital where he died several hours later.
Chief of Police Henry Lee, Captain Donohue of the Traffic Division, and a number of motorcycle officers were at the hospital and with Officer Lewis when he died.
Officer Lewis was survived by his wife and infant son.
