My husband is a 30-yr. FWPD veteran and we and our daughters were friends of J C Gaul and his first wife and children. But after their divorce we lost touch and would like to issue a personal note to Susan and Jamie, as we hold many bittersweet memories of Gaul and had traveled together and went to his home, Effingham, IL and met his family many yrs. ago. The Memorial is \"awesome\" and a very fitting tribute to Gaul and the other officers that we knew who, unfortunately, also appear upon the tablet - - we speak and think about each of them often, as do not believe that many recall these fallen and it\'s been said aloud that the earlier fallens have not been properly remembered or honored - - so, now this recognition, albeit delayed, validates their sacrifice for the FW community and the department that they served. We have a place to go and reverently recall each of their lives and its impact upon our own. Appreciate any assistance in making a connection.

Channel \\\\\\\'B\\\\\\\' is Now Closed. JC, you were a role model and an inspiration to a sixteen year old boy who came from a messed up home. That boy came to work as a volunteer in police communications when you were assigned there - in the day, way back when, that officers were assigned to Dispatch. You helped teach him the ropes and showed him that a real police officer wasn\'t a gun and a uniform but a mind and a heart, professional, tireless, and caring no matter what the duty. Well, that boy grew up and became a police officer himself. As an officer he put into practice all those positive things you taught through example and instruction. Things about being a cop and, especially, about being human. Well, he carried that wisdom you passed along. You will be happy to know he passed it on to others and told them about you. In no small measure your influence helped him make it through his law enforcement career. An influence that stood out as a light in those dark and empty places that every police officer must walk. He made it. He survived. And he retired after three decades doing the same job that you loved so much. And, best of all, he made it out with both his honor and compassion intact. You did a good job, JC! I know --- because that boy was me. Channel \\\\\\\'B\\\\\\\' is now Open. KUQ868
