Summary:
Officer George Turner was working patrol Sunday Morning, May 20, 1928, when at about 1:00 a.m. he and other officers spotted a car that had tried to run them down a few days before when they were on bicycle duty. The officers gave chase and stopped the vehicle at E. Rosedale and Louisiana. Officer Turner approached the car to speak with the driver. Almost immediately, the driver, Tenola Moore, pulled a .45 automatic from his pocket and shot Officer Turner in the chest. Moore then fled the scene on foot.
Officer Turner died a short time later at a local hospital. Officer Turner’s killer, Tenola Moore, was arrested the following year in Chicago. He was later convicted of the murder of Officer Turner and was sentenced to the Texas Department of Corrections.
