Summary:
While off-duty, Detective Donald J. Manning was on a date in Oakland Lake Park.
Detective Manning and his companion were approached by a group of males who
attempted to rob them. Detective Manning pushed his companion out of the way and drew his pistol.
An exchange of gunfire occurred and Detective Manning was shot. He died about two hours later in surgery.
