Motorcycle Officer Charles W. Hoffman died on Tuesday, June 17, 1952, from injuries sustained in an accident on June 15. The accident occurred at NW 21st Street and Ephriham when Hoffman collided with a car while pursuing a speeding vehicle. Only three days earlier, Hoffman told his squad sergeant that he thought his luck was running out in chasing speeders and had asked for a transfer from motorcycle duty.
Officer Hoffman was 37 years old.
